Being quarantined inside our homes is not necessarily a bad thing. Yet as time stretches, we can become uneasy. What used to be our place of comfort becomes an enclosed box. It starts to feel like you are trapped. It becomes suffocating and restless. It’s worse if you are claustrophobic. It becomes difficult to breathe, and your chest feels like it has been chained. The only thing we could do is hope for this pandemic to end. However, we can try to look at the bright side.
This would give us a chance to be creative. A chance to try new things. We can find hobbies and skills to invest our time on. These would make our time in quarantine more bearable and would distract us from any uneasiness.
Dancing has caught my eye during this time. Seeing the way dancers move harmonically with the music fascinates me. They merge both simple and complex actions to turn them into something so beautiful. Something that is an art. Dancing can vary from hip-hop to ballet and from urban to contemporary. Each has their own style and foundation. Just like how writers use words to convey the deepest emotion and to unfold innumerable heartfelt stories, dancers use the power of movements and body language to reveal their own tales and feelings.
The beauty of dancing is that you don’t have to be trained or to be good at it for you to enjoy the beat or melody of the music. Dancing became an outlet for me to express and let out all of my emotions. I surrender myself to the music and let my body go with the flow. Dancing makes me feel lighter and happier. It also boosts up my confidence. Every time I dance, I feel so charismatic. Something I don’t usually feel. It makes me feel like I’m a whole new version of myself.
This new interest of mine made quarantine more enjoyable. It gives me solace and joy. And I’m sure many people around the world have found their own new love too.
