by Samantha Mok (Grade 10 – Rizal)
as we walk the shore
planting footprints in the sand
with those beside us
we look back to see
the waves come and steal them like
they were never there
though the prints have gone,
they’re in the souls of the sea
and sand on our feet
and though the feet of
those beside us may take to
new, different paths
the fact we’ve walked this
beach will not be changed by the
ocean’s depth and brine
so let’s walk ahead,
take stops if needed, but keep
on making those steps
for with those here now
and new feet beside us, we’ll
make footprints again
