Love in the Visit: Sharing Joy in SOS Children’s Village
By Amanda Megan Ngo and Mary Gabrielle Llamado
“Thank you for visiting here in SOS. Your love makes me happy. Always thank you”
These delicate words written in careful handwriting on a small piece of paper from a child at SOS Children’s Village captured the heart of the outreach visit held on November 8, 2025. The Grade 9 and Grade 10 learners arrived to warm smiles and excited greetings that immediately erased any nervousness.
The afternoon was filled with games and laughter. The games included: “Red Yellow Green,” “Musical Chairs,” and “Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.” These activities became a simple yet meaningful way to connect. Beneath all the fun, the learners felt the deeper purpose of being present, sharing kindness and building genuine moments of joy.
For many students, the experience became personal. “The most memorable part was spending time with the children and seeing how joyful and active they are,” shared Jewel Salazar of Grade 10. She added that the visit made her appreciate the simple moments of connection. Grade 9 learner Karen Ong said, “Seeing their smiles made me realize how much joy they can share despite the challenges they face. It was heartwarming to witness how the SOS Village truly feels like a big family, filled with care, love, and hope.”
The children’s warmth also reminded students of the power of small acts of care. “Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference,” Karen added. “Happiness comes from love, resilience and support.”
“What I appreciated most was how our learners engaged so genuinely with the children. Their smiles and friendly gestures spoke volumes about their sincerity and willingness to connect,” shared Social Studies facilitator Edcelle Mamon. He added that the outreach strengthened his belief that real encounters teach values in ways classrooms and textbooks alone cannot.
When it was time to say goodbye, the room softened into quiet thanks and lingering smiles. As the learners left, they carried with them gratitude and a renewed understanding of what it means to share love in its simplest form.
