How to Overcome Procrastination

The red dot on the right side of the app was screaming at you to open it. You looked at your notification to find another new assignment waiting. You, who was filled with negative emotions, promised to do it later because you didn’t want to deal with it at the moment. Yet even as the clock ticked and ticked, slowly nearing the deadline, you still haven’t started with anything.Atthelastmoment, panicsurgedinyou, andfranticallyyoutriedtofinishyour assignment.

Similar scenarios like this have happened to many students. Procrastination has been a hindrance to us to do our task properly. It can have negative effects on one’s mental health, such as anxiety. It can also be a reason for having low grades.

There are various ways to stop procrastinating. One of them is to avoid any sorts of distraction. Examples of these are social media and our phones. Distraction, in general, delays us to finish something right away. By keeping all sorts of distraction away, we would have to focus on our task at hand.

Another way is to break the task down. Sometimes what causes us to procrastinate is the overwhelming feeling we get when we look or think about the work we have to do. By breaking the task to smaller fractions, we can do it one at a time until we’re able to finish the project.

The third way is to just do it. There are times that when we procrastinate, we try to find the right time where we think we’ll be at our best shape to start working. This causes us to waste the time wherein we could’ve done something. By just doing it, we can make progress even just a little bit.

These are three of the different ways to stop procrastination. We have to start to stop procrastinating for once it has become a habit, it’ll be harder to overcome it.
