Life in the Pandemic

By Kim Tubongbanwa (Grade 7 – Lu Xun)

The life before quarantine was filled with noise during the day and night in the city, and being free to go anywhere without the discomfort of wearing masks. Going out with friends while social distancing is something we didn’t need to keep in mind before. We never appreciated these moments until they became memories. Being able to rest and distance ourselves from society, yes, we are lucky indeed, but we see in the news that health workers as heroes, become victims of this virus. This is just proof that no one is exempted from this problem.

Working every day beyond their limits is something we haven’t shown enough admiration and respect of. They’re also the reason behind the recovery of many patients. When one is wearing a mask and struggles to find comfort, how much more does it feel to be in their shoes and feel the heat of wearing thick protective gear? Health workers decided to continue their path; that is why they’re the hope of many.

Not only the health workers are affected by this, but also the students since the system of learning has been changed to online and modular. Logging in to zoom and listening to class is now the new way of learning. Interacting with our classmates isn’t something we do a lot now. Normally, teachers would have discussions and we would have greater teamwork when there’s a group project, but now, we get little to no guidance from teachers at all. During this time, we’re really missing out on the real school experience, but there is hope on the other side and we have more to go through.

This is a problem spreading like wildfire in every part of the world; it affects the rich, poor, young, old, unknown, and famous. In this world, we only have each other and each of us are going through the same problem. We know there is hope, and that’s why we choose to move.
