Science in Action Part 11: ISAers Bring Experiments to Life at SM City Iloilo
Learners of Iloilo Scholastic Academy demonstrated their scientific competence and creativity through class experiment presentations during the school’s annual Science Fair, held on November 20-21, 2025, at SM City Iloilo.
The opening program, hosted by Beryl Leal and Ena Tiu, commenced with a prayer and the singing of the ISA Hymn led by the ISA Circle of Musicians. This was followed by the introduction of the event’s keynote figures: guest speaker Sir Jeff Patrick Maquiling, Secretary of the ISA Board of Directors Mrs. Vina Jalipa, and Executive Director Mr. Peter M. Chan. In their respective opening remarks, Sir Maquiling and Mrs. Jalipa underscored the importance of scientific engagement and inquiry. Tokens of appreciation to the keynote figures, the introduction of the board of judges, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony formally marked the launch of the two-day event.
“Spearheading one of the biggest events of our school for the first time has been both challenging and rewarding,” said Sir Johnny Sion, High School Chairperson of Science in Action Part 11. He shared that although the preparations were demanding, seeing the event succeed made the effort worthwhile. He also emphasized that the fair was a collective achievement, made possible through the dedication of the Science Facilitators, the guidance of Head of the Science Division Sir Gomer Nuñez, and the support of learners, advisers, facilitators, and staff.
The event featured a collection of booths, ranging from Grades 1 to 12, each presenting their own unique experiment. As people moved from station to station, the learners explained their work, turning the area into a path that showcased diverse scientific curiosity for every grade level.
“It was an interesting and fun experience. For our batch, the experiment was part of our Capstone research. My group presented Mango and Banana peels as a source of electrical energy. Many people were interested and asked many questions about our experiment,” said Vanessa Pecaoco from Grade 12.
The two-day event aimed to promote interest in science among learners and the wider community. This annual initiative continues to exhibit ISAers’ abilities in scientific inquiry and to present experiments that cater not only to their own interests but also to those of the public.
