the Fall of Summer

it was now fall.
and i’m not ready.

i’m not ready to pull out those fluffy jackets.
i’m not ready to go outside and step on crispy brown leaves.
i’m not ready to be hugged by the cold autumn breeze.

it was now fall.
and unlike me, you were ready.

you were ready to hide your presence with the sun,
you were ready to go away with the heat,
you were ready to leave everything behind.

summer will come again, but this time without you.
will i be ready by then?
